FALL 2015 MID-SEMESTER PROGRESS
10/25/15
The fall 2015 semester has been off to a great start. The team has picked up a few new members since last year who have brought lots of new perspective and helped make our team truly interdisciplinary. The team is now in its 3rd official semester as an Enterprise here at Michigan Tech and has three active projects. The Portage Paddle project, which began last fall, is now in its final stages. This project will be finished by the end of the semester. The team has two new projects; the first is aimed at developing a low cost avalanche beacon for practice burial/rescue scenarios. The second new project is a base-camp water filtration system that will have applications for use on both expeditions and the developing world. The water filtration team has just submitted their project plans to the Superior Ideas crowdfunding competition.

11/4/14
GEAR members and our advisor, Brett Hamlin, meet with ThermalAnalystics scientists last week and discussed the functions and unique advantages of the RADTherm heat transfer simulation software. The team has recognized RADTherm as a simulation software that could bring innovation to the outdoor industry, and we are excited to have such an innovative company less than 15 miles from campus! GEAR is also on schedule for progress through the initial design project: the portage paddle. Morphological charts have been completed and specific design analysis is beginning following the engineering design process. Another busy week in the books! |
